Tyler Motte agreed to a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.

Motte had 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 58 regular season games with the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers last season. He didn’t have a point in nine games with the Rangers after being traded to them on March 21, but he did score two goals in 15 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

“Tyler is a tenacious checker who plays the game with tempo,” Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said. “He is a strong penalty killer and another competitive person who adds depth to our group.”

Drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round (No. 121) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Motte has 62 points (35 goals, 27 assists) in 269 regular season games with the Rangers, Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Blackhawks and seven points (six goal, one assist) in 32 playoff games.
