Jamie Delgado says Nick Kyrgios didn’t let his people down as he gave his absolute best and left it all before falling short to Karen Khachanov. After suffering a five-set defeat to Khachanov in the US Open quarterfinals, Kyrgios was extremely disappointed.
The Australian said he felt “like s—” and added that he felt he “let so many people down.” After beating top seed Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16, Kyrgios was the clear favorite to beat Khachanov and reach the US Open semi-finals for the first time in his career.
But Khachanov came into play and upset Kyrgios 7-5 4-6 7-5 6-7 (3) 6-4. Delgado, who worked with Andy Murray and Denis Shapovalov, felt Kyrgios certainly didn’t let anyone down with his performances in New York. “I saw that and felt a little sorry for him.
He will feel that way, but he has not let his team down,” Delgado told Tennis365. “All you want as a team member is for the player to prepare as well as possible and go out there and leave it all out there. He obviously felt the pressure to win.
I’m sure his family would love to see him out there competing and enjoying it. If you lose, you haven’t failed anyone”.
