A 16-year-old has been charged with murder after a man was allegedly stabbed to death Sunshine Coast.

The teenager’s mother is known to the boy’s alleged 42-year-old victim, who was found stabbed in a house in Baringa just before midnight.

“It’s not a stepson but they’re partners and he’s a partner of the 16-year-old’s mother,” Queensland Police Philip Hurst said.

“The exact nature of that relationship is something we are exploring.”

The boy’s mother and teenager were home at the time.

“A triple zero call was received just before midnight requesting the police and ambulance and obviously to assist the 42-year-old man there with his injuries,” Hurst said.

Police are still investigating the circumstances and are questioning “a number of people”.

The boy will appear in Maroochydore Children’s Court.
