Prince William and Princess Catherine greet the public at Sandringham

Prince William and Princess Catherine have visited Sandringham to see tributes to the Queen and greet members of the public.

Sandringham is a royal residence known for hosting Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family during Christmas.

Before the pandemic, the Queen spent the winter months, from December to February, at Sandringham.

Hundreds of people have been queuing at the gates of the Norfolk estate to meet the new Prince and Princess of Wales.

Prince William wore a black suit and his wife Catherine carried a black blazer and matching handbag as they continue to mourn the Queen’s death.

William and Kate meet mourners at the Queen’s beloved estate

The floral tributes are huge, with messages and cards lining the gate to the late monarch.

The royal couple have spent time walking alongside people’s lines, talking to them and shaking hands to show their appreciation for the support.

One of the women in the crowd, whose daughter has just met the princess, says they only decided to make the trip at the last minute.

She says they didn’t even realize William and Kate would be here, describing the meeting as an “unexpected bonus”.

“(It was) just amazing to be able to see them so close,” she tells the BBC

Meanwhile in London, hundreds of thousands of people have taken to Westminster Hall to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II, whose coffin will lie in state for four days until her funeral on Monday.

Crowds streamed past her coffin in the center of the 900-year-old Westminster Hall well into Wednesday night.

New details for the Queen’s funeral

Buckingham Palace has announced that two minutes of silence will be held across the UK at the end of Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral.

The funeral is due to be held at Westminster Abbey on Monday, with around 2,000 guests attending, including visiting heads of state and other dignitaries.

Officials said Thursday that after the funeral, the late queen’s coffin will be transported through the historic heart of London on a horse-drawn gun carriage.

It will then be taken in a hearse to Windsor, where the Queen will be buried alongside her late husband Prince Philip, who died last year.
