Since the Queen’s passing earlier this week, people have left thousands upon thousands of tributes, notes, flowers and other quirky gifts at the gates of Windsor Castle just outside London.

However, one note in particular has tugged at the heartstrings of royal fans everywhere after a photo was shared on social media.

The note, written by royal writer Rick Petrachi, seemed to resonate with the general sentiment of others also mourning the monarch’s death.

“It hurts, ma’am. It hurts so bad. We’re not ready to say goodbye to you,” the note begins.

“You have taught us everything except how to live in your absence.”

“A Britain without its platinum queen is unthinkable.”

“You were, after all, like Philip to you, our strength and stay,” the poignant note concluded.

Petrachi also mentioned that he hopes the late monarch eats his “marmalade sandwich”.

This is a reference to the Queen’s long-standing relationship with Paddington Bear. The monarch first appeared with the iconic British bear in Paddington at the palace, although the two would not officially “meet” until the Queen’s 80th birthday celebrations back in 2006.

Most recently, Paddington Bear and the Queen shared a sweet moment bonding over their love of jam sandwiches in a short clip for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.

The note, which was posted on Twitter, received a number of comments from touched mourners.

“What a beautiful note saying how we feel… today is the first day I haven’t been reduced to tears… until I read your note to our #ElizabethTheGreat,” one commenter wrote.

“Oh wow you made me cry, such touching words, you really captured everyone’s feelings,” another commenter added.

Tributes to the Queen have grown steadily around the UK since the Queen’s death on September 8. In addition to cards and flowers, many mourners have also left jam sandwiches – referring to the Queen and Paddington Bear.

However, mourners have been asked not to leave the quirky tribute any longer.
