The Mercury Prize 2022 nominations have been announced, with British stars Harry Styles and Sam Fender among the nominees for one of the most prestigious music awards.

The Mercury Prize, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2022, will be awarded to the artist with the best album of the year.

All 12 shortlisted artists will receive a specially commissioned Album of the Year trophy, with the overall winner receiving a cash prize of £25,000.

Mercury’s official website states: “The main objectives of the award are to recognize and celebrate artistic achievements, provide a snapshot of the music year and help introduce new albums from a range of music genres to a wider audience.”

The full shortlist for the Mercury Prize 2022 was announced on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. On the list were:

When will the Mercury Prize 2022 awards ceremony take place?

The Mercury Prize award show will take place on Thursday, September 8, 2022. The ceremony will feature a performance of all 12 nominated acts.

Harry Styles will miss the awards ceremony as he is currently performing in the US as part of his Love on Tour. A filmed live performance is shown instead.

The awards ceremony will be broadcast on BBC Four from 9pm to 10:15pm. You can also watch the show on the BBC iPlayer after it ends.
